Our Story
Doug and Hank returned back to Hong Kong from their boarding school shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic began. As their school shifted to virtual learning, they learnt that a big part of students in Hong Kong, especially ethnic minorities and new immigrants, were being disproportionately affected by the transition to online learning. Some schools were not able to support remote teaching, and some also had no stable access to internet and personal PCs.
Realizing that the pandemic pronounced the underlying education disparity in Hong Kong, Doug and Hank each e-tutored 2-3 secondary school students introduced by the charity – Kids4Kids – for free. Gradually, they found that beyond academic support, those students were also seeking guidance on matters such as course selection and college plans. With a growing interest in such mentorships, Doug and Hank decided to expand their work by founding Peer2Peer Mentorships in hopes of encouraging students like themselves to provide free 1-on-1 educational guidance and academic help to their fellow peers. Later on towards the end of 2020, Hank founded Peer2Peer Athletics under the same ideology to provide free peer-led exercise opportunities to fellow students in hopes of encouraging healthy lifestyles and improving character development.
Our Mission
Today, Peer2Peer – mentorships and athletics combined – has over 100 mentors worldwide. Having worked with over 300 mentees, Peer2Peer is committed to bridging the education and opportunities gap among Hong Kong students through peer-to-peer academic and athletic support.
Our Endeavours
Peer2Peer Mentorships serves as an online platform for students in need to connect with top secondary school peer-mentors from all over the world for a free e-mentorship program. To make the mentorship experience as rewarding as possible, our mentees can choose their own mentors on our website’s “connect with a peer” page based on academic needs and extra-curricular interests and an advisor based on university and career plans.
Peer2Peer Athletics serves as an in-person afterschool sports program where voluntary student mentors will host exercises and games. Each lesson plan is unique and always aims to promote traits of success such as teamwork and resilience among our mentees.
