Our Mission
"For students, by students" - Peer2Peer is a student-run, non-profit organization with community support that aims to bridge the educational disparity in Hong Kong by enhancing the education amongst underprivileged students from Primary 3 to Secondary Form 3 (grade 3 to grade 10) and ensuring inclusive access to quality education for all students. We hope to stimulate students’ full potential in academics, athletics, and arts while equipping them with the best learning methods and skills to take on all aspects of their educational journey.
Our Vision
Peer2Peer envisions a future where students, regardless of their backgrounds, can access high-quality education, empowered by a vibrant community that fosters lifelong learning and diversity. We aim to grow Peer2Peer into a sustainable organization that collaborates with schools, families, and local partners to make a long-term, meaningful difference in the lives of Hong Kong students, preparing them to become future leaders and changemakers.
Doug and Hank came back to Hong Kong from boarding school during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. They discovered that many students in Hong Kong, particularly ethnic minorities and new immigrants, were facing unequal challenges with the switch to online learning. Some schools lacked the resources for remote teaching, and certain students didn't have stable internet access or personal PC.
Realizing that the pandemic pronounced the underlying education disparity in Hong Kong, Doug and Hank each e-tutored 2-3 secondary school students introduced by the charity Kids4Kids for free. Gradually, they found that beyond academic support, those students were also seeking guidance on matters such as course selection and college plans. With a growing interest in such mentorships, Doug and Hank decided to expand their work by founding Peer2Peer Mentorships in hopes of encouraging students like themselves to provide free 1-on-1 educational guidance and academic help to their fellow peers. Later on towards the end of 2020, Hank founded Peer2Peer Athletics under the same ideology to provide free peer-led exercise opportunities to fellow students in hopes of encouraging healthy lifestyles and improving character development.

Our initial hope was simply that the mentees would benefit academically. However, we discovered that giving has its own rewards: not only did the mentees gain, but the student mentors also learned more in preparing for their lessons and acquired valuable life skills such as listening, empathizing, problem-solving, planning, clear communication, teamwork, and leadership.

This experience reinforced our belief that empowering youth is one of the best ways to learn. It inspired us to establish Peer2Peer Foundation, a student-run charity dedicated to cultivating and nurturing both mentors and mentees through our free Mentorship Program.

The program recruits and trains top-quality mentors from high schools in Hong Kong and overseas. Our aim is not only to tutor mentees in specific academic and extracurricular subjects but also to assist those with particular learning needs, which is becoming increasingly common. By sharing experience-based ideas and programs to enhance study skills, our mentors will grow into self-confident leaders who embrace the spirit of giving.
